I produced this video for the Bangladesh-American Center. It video was completed in less than a week time. It was shot on one afternoon, edited and authored in two evenings. It premiered on 19th February with a repeat on 20th February during the International Mother Language Day (IMLD) and 10th North America Bangla Literature and Culture Convention (NABLCC) at Houston.

This was a very interesting project. I produced it in 1997. I was visiting Barishal, a district town in Bangladesh. I was shooting still photography and I saw this girl walking on the terrace of a old building. It immediately invoked a story in my mind. I asked permission from her parents if I could come back the next day and shoot some video. They agreed. I had a Panasonic VHS with me at that time. I then managed two local boys and one girl who were interested in acting, but never appreared in any video or film before. One of the boy had unshaved face. I told him not to shave! My friend Saki managed a guitar and a rose for me. None of them had any idea what is going to happen tomorrow, neither did I! I went back to my hotel and wrote the script till 2:30 am.

I picked up the boys and the girl in my car and while driving to the spot explained my script. I basically told a story so that they feel a part of it. I told them that all they have to do is to listen to what I tell them and repeat after me. There were no time to do rehearsal or makeup. We arrived at that house (Mukharjee Bhaban") in two vans. I asked the mother of the girl (Konika) if I can have her wear a sari. She did, but was very shy. Keep in mind that the girl had never been infront of a video camera in her life before!

I had two hour time before I had to head for the airport. I had an afternoon flight to Dhaka where I lived. So I kept shooting frantically keeping the camera on my shoulder. I didn't have any tripod or any other support crew. My friend Saki was managing the crowd behind me which gathered to see what was happening. The had no idea what was going on, neother did the talents!

While on the plane, I decided to complete the video tonight. So once I arrived at the Dhaka airport, I called my team (I had a video post production house at Dhaka) and told them to reserve the editing bay for me for the rest of the evening. I sent one of my boys to get a cassette with the song "Ei neel monihar" and then called my good friend Fuad Naser Babu. I requested him to record the music of the song "Ei neel monihar" for me in a DAT and told him that I am sending someone to get the DAT.

I reached home, changed clothes and left for the studio. By the time I arrived, the cassette and the DAT was waiting for me. I then edited the video in about two hours. So the total time it took to create the video was approximately 4-1/2 hours within the span of less than 24 hours! I enjoyed this challenging project immensly. The work flow of producing such a video was more important to me at that time than the content such as acting, lights, camera etc.

When I went to Bangladesh to visit my family in 2000, I found out that a full blown TV drama was produced based on this short experimental drama that I created in 1997! I will later upload that full drama here.
